The short answer
American-built Ford models such as the Mustang, Explorer, F-150 and Expedition take BCI group batteries like 65, 48/H6 or 94R/H7, and newer ones with auto start-stop need AGM. Arjan Battery delivers the correct group to your car in Arjan or anywhere in Dubai, fits it on site and resets the battery monitoring system with a scan tool where the car has one.
Ford does not use the JIS sizes that suit most Japanese and Korean cars in Dubai. A JIS battery will not sit correctly in the tray of an Explorer or an F-150, and the terminals end up on the wrong side. Ford batteries are sold by BCI group number, and since about 2011 many models also watch the battery with a sensor that expects to be reset.

The battery monitoring system on newer Ford models
From about 2011, many Ford models carry a battery monitoring system, usually shortened to BMS. A sensor on the negative terminal measures the current flowing in and out, and the car keeps a running estimate of the battery's charge and age. When it decides the battery is weak it starts shedding loads, and the screen may show 'System off to save battery'.
The car does not notice by itself that a new battery has been fitted. Until the BMS is reset with a scan tool, it goes on charging and shedding loads as if the old battery were still there, and auto start-stop may stay off. We carry out the reset at your car in Arjan after fitting, then measure charging voltage again to confirm the alternator is responding.
Older Ford and newer Ford
Without battery monitoring
- Typically cars built before about 2011, plus some simpler recent models.
- A maintenance-free flooded battery in the correct BCI group is all that is needed.
- No reset is required. A working alternator charges at roughly 13.8 to 14.7V.
- Jump leads can go straight onto both battery posts.
With battery monitoring
- Most models from about 2011, and every model with auto start-stop.
- Start-stop cars need AGM or EFB in the same group size as the original.
- The BMS should be reset with a scan tool after the new battery is fitted.
- The negative jump lead goes on the body earth point, not on the battery post.
Where the negative lead goes on a Ford with BMS
If you jump start or charge a newer Ford yourself, clamp the negative lead to the marked earth point on the body or engine, not to the battery's negative post. The sensor sits between the post and the body. Current that bypasses it is never counted, so the car misjudges how full the battery is for some time afterwards.

Ford: Model by model
- Ford Mustang
- Usually a mid-size BCI battery such as group 96R or 48/H6, under the bonnet. Cars that sit between weekend drives discharge slowly, so we test before replacing.
- Ford F-150
- Older trucks take a group 65 battery. Newer ones with auto start-stop usually take a 94R/H7 AGM and have a battery monitoring system that should be reset.
- Ford Explorer
- Group 65 on many older cars; 48/H6 or 94R/H7 AGM on recent ones with start-stop. Three rows and rear climate control mean capacity should not be cut.
- Ford Expedition
- A large battery: group 65 on older generations and usually a 94R/H7 AGM on the current one. We confirm by year because the tray differs.
- Ford Edge
- Recent cars use a DIN-shaped 48/H6 or 94R/H7 battery, AGM where start-stop is fitted. Older ones differ, so a label photo settles it.
- Ford Ranger
- A DIN-shaped battery of about 70 to 80Ah on most versions sold here. Diesel engines need more cranking power than petrol ones.
- Ford Territory
- A DIN-shaped battery, usually about 60 to 70Ah. Versions with start-stop need EFB or AGM, which we check from the VIN or the fitted battery.
- Ford Focus
- A compact battery that sits tight behind the air filter housing on later generations, so some trim comes out first. Cars from about 2012 have battery monitoring.

Ford: common questions
Not answered here? Ask on WhatsApp. A person replies, at any hour.
What battery group does a Ford Explorer take?
Many older Explorer models take a BCI group 65 battery, while recent ones with auto start-stop usually take a 48/H6 or 94R/H7 AGM. The tray is different between the two, so one cannot replace the other. Send the model year or a photo of the label and we bring the correct group to Arjan or anywhere in Dubai.
Does a Ford need a BMS reset after a new battery?
On models with a battery monitoring system, yes, it is recommended. The reset tells the car the battery is new, so it charges it fully and stops switching off features to save power. Without it the car can take a long time to adjust and start-stop may stay disabled. We do the reset on site.
My Ford says 'System off to save battery'. What does it mean?
The battery monitoring system has judged the charge too low and switched off the screen or audio to keep enough power for starting. It often appears when the radio is used with the engine off, and it appears sooner as the battery ages. Battery testing shows whether it only needs charging or has reached the end.
Do you have the large batteries for an F-150 or Expedition?
Tell us the model year on WhatsApp and we confirm the group, the brand and the cost before the technician sets off, so the right battery is on board when he arrives. Older trucks usually need group 65 and newer ones a 94R/H7 AGM. Delivery and fitting are free.
Why does my Mustang battery go flat when it is parked?
A parked Mustang still powers its alarm, keyless entry and control units. Left for two or three weeks in a hot car park, that slow drain can pull an ageing battery below starting voltage. A jump start service gets it running, and a test afterwards shows whether the battery will hold charge or needs replacing.
