Why a Geely battery fades early in Dubai
Heat is the first reason. Under a closed bonnet in July the battery case sits well above the air temperature, which evaporates electrolyte and corrodes the plates. Across the UAE that commonly limits a battery to about 2 to 3 years, and a Geely is no exception, however new the rest of the car feels.
The second reason is how these cars are used. A Coolray or Monjaro that does ten-minute runs between an Arjan tower and Umm Suqeim Street, with the AC on full and start-stop cutting the engine at every signal, never gets the battery back to a full charge. The car also keeps drawing a little current when parked, for the alarm, the app connection and the keyless entry.

Signs your Geely needs a battery test
Slow first crank
The engine turns over lazily after a night in the basement, then starts normally for the rest of the day.
Start-stop goes quiet

- The 1.5 turbo three-cylinder uses start-stop on most trims, so the usual fitment is an EFB of about 60Ah in a DIN case. A plain battery here tends to switch start-stop off within weeks.
- Geely Emgrand
- The simplest Geely to change. Its naturally aspirated 1.5 usually has no start-stop and takes an ordinary sealed battery of 45 to 60Ah, in plain view at the front of the engine bay.
- Geely Tugella
- The 2.0 turbo coupe SUV sits on Geely's shared platform with Volvo. Most cars take an EFB or AGM of around 70Ah and have a battery sensor on the negative terminal.
- Geely Monjaro
- Geely's flagship carries three screens, surround cameras and powered seats, so it usually runs an AGM of 70 to 80Ah. We check the label on the fitted battery and replace like for like.
- Geely Okavango
- Some seven-seat Okavango versions pair the engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system. That unit is separate. The 12V battery under the bonnet is the one that goes flat, and the one we replace.

What battery size does a Geely Coolray take?
Most Coolray trims take a DIN-size battery of about 60Ah under the bonnet, and because the 1.5 turbo has start-stop it is usually an EFB. Some years differ, so send us a photo of the label or your registration card on WhatsApp and we will bring the matching battery.
Does a Geely need the battery programmed after replacement?
The Emgrand and other models without start-stop need nothing. Turbo models have a battery sensor that tracks charge and age, so we connect a scan tool, clear low-voltage faults and reset the battery data where the car offers that function. It helps start-stop come back sooner.
My Geely Monjaro will not start after two weeks parked. Is the battery finished?
Not always. The Monjaro draws standby current for its alarm, app and keyless system, and two weeks can flatten a battery that is otherwise healthy. We jump start the car, then test the battery once it has some charge. Under 12.0V at rest after charging usually means replacement.
