The short answer
Arjan Battery runs a jump start service in Arjan, Dubai, 24 hours a day, and usually reaches you in 20 to 35 minutes. The technician checks the battery, jump-starts the car with a booster pack, then confirms the alternator is charging. If the battery will not hold a charge, a replacement can be fitted on the spot.
A car that only clicks in a Vincitore or Lincoln Park basement nearly always has a flat battery, and a flat battery is not always a dead one. A jump start has the engine running in a few minutes. The useful part comes after it: three readings that tell you if this was a one-off or if the battery is about to leave you stuck again.
Signs you need it
- You turn the key and hear rapid clicking, or nothing at all
- Dash lights come on dim and go out when you try to start
- The engine turns slowly two or three times and gives up
- A light, a door or the boot was left open overnight
- The car stood unused for two weeks or more
- The remote no longer unlocks the doors
What the job covers
- Battery voltage check before any clamp goes on
- Jump start from a booster pack, so no second car is needed
- Clamps connected in the correct order at the correct points
- Alternator charging test once the engine runs
- A straight answer on whether the battery needs replacing
What a jump start does, and what it does not
A jump start lends the car enough current to turn the starter motor. It does not charge the battery. Once the engine is running the alternator takes over and begins to put charge back, slowly. A deeply flat battery needs hours of driving or a proper charger to recover, and a worn one will not recover at all.
That is why the meter comes out before the clamps. A battery at 11.8V because a door stayed open all night is discharged and probably fine. A battery that reads 12.4V and still cannot crank the engine has lost its capacity, and a jump only postpones the next failure. The two cases look the same from the driver's seat.
The order the clamps go on
The order is the same with a booster pack or a second car. It keeps the last spark away from the battery.
- 1
Everything off
Ignition, lights and AC off. Look at the battery first: a cracked, leaking or swollen battery is not jumped.
- 2
Red to the flat battery
First red clamp on the positive (+) terminal of the flat battery, or on the car's marked jump post.
- 3
Red to the power source
Second red clamp on the positive terminal of the booster pack or the donor car's battery.
- 4
Black to the source negative
First black clamp on the negative (-) terminal of the booster pack or donor battery.
- 5
Last black to bare metal
On the stalled car, clamp an unpainted engine bolt or the marked earth point, away from the battery, so any spark stays clear of battery gas.
- 6
Start, then reverse
Start the engine. Remove the clamps in exactly the reverse order and never let red touch black while one end is still connected.
When a jump will help and when it will not
A jump gets you going
- Lights, radio or a door left on overnight drained a healthy battery
- The car stood in the basement for weeks while you travelled
- Many short trips with the AC on left the battery undercharged
- An ageing battery needs one more start before it is replaced
A jump will not fix it
- A dead cell: the battery sits near 10.5V and swallows the boost without cranking
- One loud click with bright dash lights points to the starter motor
- The engine cranks at normal speed but never fires: fuel, spark or immobiliser
- It starts, then dies within minutes of the clamps coming off: the alternator is not charging
- Heavy white or green corrosion on the terminals blocks the current until it is cleaned
Where a wrong connection gets expensive
A modern car carries dozens of control units, and a reversed clamp can blow the main fuse or damage them. Many European cars keep the battery in the boot and have a jump post under the bonnet. Hybrids are boosted only at their 12V point, and the orange high-voltage cables are never touched.
The readings we take around a jump
- Before, engine off
- Under 12.0V is discharged, about 12.2V is half charged
- While cranking
- A healthy battery usually stays above about 9.6V
- Engine running
- Roughly 13.8 to 14.7V from a working alternator
- Running, stuck near 12V and falling
- The alternator is not charging
- Fully charged and rested
- About 12.6V
Smart alternators vary their output, so one low reading at idle is not a fault on its own. We read again with the lights and AC switched on.

We reply with the battery options that fit, the full price and how long the van will take. Nothing moves until you say yes.
- 3
We test before we fit
The technician checks the old battery and the alternator first. If a jump start or a clean terminal fixes it, that is what you get.
- 4
Pay and drive
Cash, card, Tabby or Tamara at the car. Your warranty of up to 24 months arrives on WhatsApp before the van leaves.
Typical time at the car: 15 to 25 minutes.

Car jump start: common questions
Not answered here? Ask on WhatsApp. A person replies, at any hour.
How quickly can you reach me in Arjan for a jump start?
In Arjan and the communities around it, such as Al Barsha South, Dubai Science Park and Motor City, a technician usually arrives in 20 to 35 minutes. We also cover the rest of Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, and for those we confirm the arrival time on WhatsApp or the call. We are open 24 hours, 7 days.
Is it safe to jump start a car with a lot of electronics?
Yes, when the clamps go on in the right order at the points the maker provides. The damage people hear about comes from reversed polarity or from clamping onto the wrong terminal. On cars with the battery in the boot we use the jump post under the bonnet.
How long should I drive after a jump start?
At least 30 to 45 minutes of steady driving, not idling. The alternator is built to keep a battery topped up, not to refill an empty one, so a deeply flat battery may still need a proper charge. If the engine cranks slowly the next morning, have the battery tested.
My car died again the day after a jump. What does that mean?
One of three things. The battery no longer holds charge, which is the usual answer at 2 to 3 years old in UAE heat. The alternator is not charging. Or something in the car stays awake and drains it overnight. A battery testing visit separates the three in a few minutes.
Can you jump start a hybrid or an electric car?
Usually, yes. Hybrids and EVs have a small low-voltage battery that runs the locks, screens and contactors, and when it is flat the car will not switch on. We boost that 12V side only. Newer Teslas use a 16V lithium battery that is handled differently, so tell us the model and year first.
Can a completely dead battery be jump started?
Often it can. A battery drained to a few volts may need the booster connected for several minutes before the engine will crank. If a cell has failed inside, no amount of boosting helps, and the technician can fit a replacement there and then after showing you the readings.
