How UAE sun takes paint apart
Modern paint is a thin colour layer under a clear coat that carries the gloss and the UV protection. Years of strong sun break that clear coat down. Horizontal panels go first because they face the sky all day: roof, bonnet, boot lid. The finish turns dull, then cloudy, then the clear coat lets go of the colour underneath and peels.
Up to the dull stage, machine polishing can often bring the gloss back, because the damage is at the surface. Once the clear coat is cloudy from within or peeling, there is nothing left to polish. The panel has to be sanded back and repainted. Leaving it lets the unprotected colour coat fade and, on metal panels, opens the way to rust.

Can faded paint be polished back or does it need repainting?
If the surface is dull but smooth and even in colour, polishing usually works. If you see white cloudy patches, cracking or peeling edges, the clear coat has failed and the panel needs repainting. Send a close photo taken in daylight and we will tell you which it is.
Can you repaint only the roof or only the bonnet?
Yes. Single-panel repaints are a routine job, since the roof and bonnet fade long before the doors do. The new paint is matched to the car's current shade so it does not stand out against the older panels beside it.
Why does my repainted panel look different in sunlight?
Either the colour was mixed from the code without adjusting for the car's aged paint, or a metallic colour was not blended into the next panel. Metallic flakes also lie differently depending on how the paint is sprayed. It can be corrected by rematching and blending.
Does peeling paint matter for the RTA passing test?
It can. Inspectors assess the general condition of the body, and badly faded or peeling paint can be a reason for a car to fail in Dubai. If your renewal is coming up and the roof or bonnet has peeled, book the repaint with time to spare.
