Habits that help a gearbox last in Dubai traffic
- In a dual-clutch car, hold the car on the brake in a queue. Creeping forward on a slipping clutch builds heat fast.
- On steep ramps, including tower basement ramps in Arjan, hold the car with the handbrake or hill-hold, not the throttle.
- Keep your hand off the manual gear lever between changes. Resting weight on it wears the selector forks.
- Have any oil spot under the car looked at early. Gearboxes hold little oil and do not tolerate running low.

My dual-clutch car judders in slow traffic. Is that normal?
A light shudder when creeping can be a trait of dry-clutch units, but judder that is getting worse, or a gearbox overheat message, is not normal. It usually points to worn clutches, a clutch adaptation that needs resetting, or a mechatronic fault. A scan and a road test tell them apart.
Can a gearbox be repaired or does it have to be replaced?
Many faults are repairable: seals, bearings, synchros, cables, mounts and, on DCT units, the mechatronic unit or clutch pack. Replacement makes sense when the casing or several gear sets are damaged. We tell you which case yours is after diagnosis, with the reasons.
My car is stuck in gear and will not move. Can you collect it from Arjan?
