Why did my wheel alignment not last?
Usually because a worn part moved after the car left the aligner. Bushes, ball joints and tie rod ends with play let the wheel angles shift under load. The settings were correct on the machine and wrong again on the road. The fix is to replace the worn part, then align.
What is the knock I hear over speed bumps?
The usual suspects are anti-roll bar links, control arm bushes, shock absorber top mounts and ball joints. A single sharp knock often points to a link or a mount. A dull thud under braking points to an arm bush. It takes a lift and a pry bar to confirm which.
Do shock absorbers have to be replaced in pairs?
Yes, both on the same axle. A new shock next to a tired one gives uneven damping left to right, which upsets braking and cornering. The same goes for springs. Front and rear axles can be done at different times if only one end is worn.
Will worn suspension fail the RTA passing test?
It can. The test includes a check of steering and suspension, and excessive play in a ball joint or a leaking shock absorber can fail the car. Tyres worn unevenly by a tired suspension are another reason. Have it inspected before your renewal date.
