Why the battery fails long before the Toyota does
A Toyota engine will usually outlast several batteries in the UAE. Summer heat under the bonnet evaporates electrolyte and corrodes the plate grids, so a battery that would last five years in a mild climate commonly lasts about 2 to 3 years here. The car gives little warning. It starts fine in the morning and refuses after an hour parked in the sun.

A Toyota battery label reads something like 55D23L. The first number is the performance rank, the letter and two digits give the case size, and the final L or R says which side the terminals sit. Signs a Toyota battery is on its way out
- The engine turns over slower than usual on the first start of the day, then seems normal for the rest of it.
- The battery light or a row of dashboard lights flickers at the moment you turn the key or press Start.

- Toyota Hilux
- Petrol versions usually take an 80D26-class battery. Diesel versions need more cranking power and a higher capacity, so we confirm the engine first.

What size battery does a Toyota Camry take?
Most four-cylinder Camry models sold in the UAE take a 55D23L-class battery and the V6 usually takes the larger 80D26L class. Camry Hybrid uses a small sealed 12V auxiliary battery in the boot instead. Sizes changed between generations, so we check the label on your fitted battery or your registration card before setting off.
Does a Toyota hybrid still need a 12V battery?
Yes. A Prius, Camry Hybrid or RAV4 Hybrid has a small 12V auxiliary battery that powers the computers and switches the high-voltage pack on. When it goes flat the car will not show Ready, even with a full hybrid battery. It is a sealed, vented type and has to be replaced with the same kind.
Does a new Toyota battery need coding or registration?
