Genesis models use the same Hyundai Mobis AGM fitment as the large Hyundai cars: a sealed AGM battery of about 70 to 105Ah in a DIN case, mounted in the boot on most models. Hyundai parts, Genesis packaging
Genesis is the luxury brand of Hyundai, and its electrical parts come from the same supplier, Hyundai Mobis. The genuine battery is a Mobis AGM in a standard DIN case. Korean makers such as Solite and Sebang, and Varta from Germany, build AGM batteries in the same cases and ratings, so a correct replacement does not have to wait for a dealer order.
Putting the battery in the boot keeps it away from engine heat, which helps in a Dubai summer, and balances the weight of a rear-drive car. The cost is access. A fully flat Genesis may not release its boot lid electrically. The posts under the bonnet exist for that case: power goes in there, the car wakes, and the boot opens normally.
What the label on a Genesis battery means
- AGM
- Absorbent glass mat. The acid is held in glass fibre mats, so the battery is sealed, spill-proof and safe to mount inside the cabin area.
- Ah (amp-hours)
- How much energy the battery stores. The number after AGM on a Mobis label, such as AGM80, is this figure.
- CCA
- Cold-cranking amps, the burst of current available to turn the engine. Our tester compares the measured figure with the rated one.
- L3, L4, L5
- DIN case lengths. The tray in the boot fits one length only, which is why capacity and case have to be matched together.
- Battery sensor
- A small module clamped to the negative terminal. It measures current, voltage and temperature so the alternator charges only as much as needed.

Resting voltage, cranking health and alternator output are measured first. A battery that only needs charging is not replaced.

A memory saver keeps seat positions, radio and clock settings alive while the main battery is out, where the car allows it.

Open the boot floor
The floor panel or side trim comes out, the negative lead with its sensor is released first, then the vent tube and the clamp.

Let the car rest after a new battery

- Genesis G80
- AGM of about 80 to 95Ah in the boot on most cars, with the larger engines taking the larger case. The electrified G80 has its own 12V auxiliary battery, which we check by photo first.
- Genesis G90
- The flagship carries the largest AGM in the range, usually 95Ah or more, in the boot. Soft-close doors, rear seat motors and air suspension draw from it even when the car is parked.
- Genesis GV70
- AGM of roughly 70 to 80Ah. On most cars it sits in the luggage area and the bonnet only shows the jump-start post, so we confirm the location from your photo before setting off.
- Genesis GV80
- AGM of about 80 to 95Ah under the luggage floor on most cars. The power tailgate needs voltage to open, so on a flat car we feed the bonnet posts first.

- Fully electric, but it still has a 12V auxiliary battery under the bonnet that wakes the car and closes the high-voltage contactors. If it goes flat the car will not switch to ready, even with a full main battery.

What battery does a Genesis G80 take?
Most G80 cars take an AGM battery of about 80 to 95Ah in a DIN case, mounted in the boot. The exact rating depends on the engine and year, so we ask for a photo of the label or the registration card and bring the matching battery.
Can I use a Hyundai battery in my Genesis?
Yes, if it is the same AGM type, capacity and case. Genesis and Hyundai both use Hyundai Mobis batteries, and an AGM80 from a large Hyundai is the same part family. What you cannot do is fit a flooded battery where the car was built with AGM.
Where is the battery in a Genesis GV80?
On most GV80 cars it is under the luggage floor at the back. Under the bonnet you will only find the jump-start posts. If the car is completely flat, power is fed to those posts first so the tailgate can open.
Does a Genesis need battery registration after replacement?
No coding is needed when the new battery matches the original type and capacity. The battery sensor recalibrates after the car has been parked and locked for a few hours. We scan the car before leaving to make sure no electrical faults are stored.
My Genesis is dead and the boot will not open. Can you still replace the battery?
