The short answer
Most modern Porsches take an AGM battery of roughly 70 to 105Ah in a DIN case: in the front boot on the 911, 718, Boxster and Cayman, and under a seat or the luggage floor on the Cayenne, Macan and Panamera. The new battery must be registered with a scan tool. Arjan Battery does both at your door in Arjan and across Dubai.
A Porsche battery job is three questions: where the battery is on your model, whether the car will let you reach it when it is flat, and whether the new one gets registered afterwards. Skip the last step and the car keeps charging a new AGM as if it were the worn one it replaced.
Porsche battery at a glance
- Make origin
- Germany, Volkswagen Group
- Battery technology
- AGM on nearly all models from about 2010 onward; older cars may have a sealed flooded battery. The Taycan uses a 12V lithium auxiliary battery.
- Typical capacity
- About 70 to 105Ah, largest on the Cayenne and Panamera.
- Size standard
- DIN/EN cases, H6 to H9 class.
- Where it sits
- Front luggage compartment on the 911, 718, Boxster and Cayman; under the left front seat on most Cayennes up to 2017; under the luggage floor on the Macan, Panamera and later Cayenne.
- Registration after fitting
- Required. We do it at your door
A flat sports car may not open its own front boot
On the 911, Boxster and Cayman the battery lives in the front luggage compartment, and the lid release is electric. With a dead battery the lid stays shut. Porsche fits a pull-out positive terminal in the fuse box by the driver's footwell so the latch can be powered from outside. Our technician uses that. Nobody should force the lid.

How we change a Porsche battery
- 1
Identify the car
Model, year and a photo of the fitted battery or registration card tell us the capacity, the case and the technology to load.
- 2
Get to the battery
Front lid released through the fuse-box terminal if needed, the seat run forward on a Cayenne, or the luggage floor lifted on a Macan.
- 3
Swap with memory held
A memory saver supports the car where it allows. Negative lead off first, vent tube and clamp released, old battery out.
- 4
Register the new battery
The scan tool tells the car a new battery is fitted, with its capacity and type, so the charging strategy starts again from new.
- 5
Prove the charging system
Charging voltage is measured with the engine running and stored low-voltage faults are cleared before we leave.
Why a parked Porsche goes flat
Many Porsches in Arjan are second cars. They sit in a basement bay from one weekend to the next while the alarm, the tracker and the keyless receivers keep drawing a small current. An AGM battery tolerates this better than a flooded one, but three or four weeks without a drive can still bring it below the level the starter needs.
That is why we test before we sell. A battery that is simply discharged recovers with a proper charge and a mains maintainer plugged in between drives. A battery that has been run flat several times, or has passed two Dubai summers, usually shows low cranking health on the tester, and that one is worth replacing.
What a weak Porsche battery looks like
- A battery or electrical system warning in the instrument cluster shortly after start.
- Auto start-stop stops working. The car switches it off to protect a low battery.
- The centre screen restarts during cranking, or the clock and trip data reset.
- Several unrelated warnings appear together after a jump start and clear after a short drive.
- The key is not recognised or the doors unlock slowly after the car has stood for a week.

Porsche: Model by model
- Porsche Cayenne
- Up to 2017 the main battery is under the left front seat on most cars, a large AGM of about 95 to 105Ah. On the later Cayenne it moved under the luggage floor. Both need registration.
- Porsche Macan
- AGM of roughly 80 to 95Ah under the luggage floor at the rear. Jump-start points are under the bonnet, so a flat Macan can be woken without opening the tailgate first.
- Porsche Panamera
- The battery is at the back of the car under the luggage floor, usually a 95Ah class AGM. Hybrid versions have a different low-voltage setup, so we check the VIN before quoting a part.
- Porsche 911
- Front boot, under a plastic cover near the windscreen. Most cars of the last 15 years take an AGM of about 70 to 95Ah, and a flat car needs the fuse-box terminal to release the front lid.
- Porsche 718
- The current Boxster and Cayman generation: AGM in the front boot, usually in the 70 to 80Ah class, with idle stop-start. Registration is required after every battery change.
- Porsche Boxster
- Front boot on every generation. Early cars used a conventional sealed battery with a vent tube; later ones moved to AGM. We check which is fitted, because the vent tube must be reconnected.
- Porsche Taycan
- Fully electric, with a small 12V lithium battery running the low-voltage system. We test it and can wake a flat car, and we confirm part availability on WhatsApp before promising a replacement.

We carry brands that car makers fit at the factory and that hold up in Gulf heat. Each one has its strengths, and we will tell you which suits your car.
VartaThe German battery many European cars leave the factory with, in standard, EFB and AGM form.
BoschA German parts name with a battery range you can read by its code: S4, S5, S4 E and S5 A.
ExideOne of the oldest names in car batteries, now made by two separate companies. The label tells you which.

Porsche: common questions
Not answered here? Ask on WhatsApp. A person replies, at any hour.
Where is the battery in a Porsche Cayenne?
It depends on the generation. On most Cayennes built up to 2017 the main battery is under the left front seat, reached by moving the seat and lifting a floor cover. On the later Cayenne it sits under the luggage floor. Both have jump-start points under the bonnet.
Does a Porsche battery need to be coded after replacement?
Yes. Modern Porsches monitor the battery through a sensor on the negative terminal and adjust charging to its age. After a replacement the car has to be told that a new battery is fitted, with its capacity and type. Our technician does this with a scan tool as part of the job.
Can you jump start a Porsche 911 with a dead battery?
Yes. Our jump start service uses the pull-out terminal in the fuse box to release the front lid, then connects to the battery itself. After the engine starts we test the battery, because one that needed a jump after a short stand is usually near the end of its life.
Can you replace the 12V battery on a Porsche Taycan?
The Taycan uses a 12V lithium battery, not a standard AGM, so it is not a part every van carries. We can test it, wake a car that will not switch on, and tell you honestly whether a replacement is available through us before anyone travels to you.
Which battery brand suits a Porsche?
A German-pattern AGM in the correct DIN case. We usually fit Varta, Bosch or Exide AGM, matched to the capacity the car was built with. Each comes with a warranty of up to 24 months, and the old battery is taken away for recycling.
