Traction battery

The high-voltage pack under the floor, which BYD calls the Blade Battery. It drives the motors. We do not service it.

12V auxiliary battery

The small battery that runs locks, lights, screens and control units. This is the one behind most no-start calls.

LFP

Lithium iron phosphate. The chemistry of BYD's traction pack and, on many newer cars, of the 12V unit as well.

DC-DC converter

Does the job of an alternator. It steps high voltage down to charge the 12V battery, but only while the car is awake.

Ready mode

The state shown on the dash when the contactors are closed and the car can drive. A flat 12V battery stops the car reaching it.
